Looking for something to do this weekend? Come check out the Old Town Newhall Farmers’ Market. The market brings a fresh approach to food shopping.

Hours for this Saturday, May 23,  from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street. You will find the finest in fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Thursdays@Newhall’s most popular event, Senses, returns with a Masquerade-themed block party, presented by Galpin Subaru, happening this Thursday, May 21, from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.

There will be fun themed activities, adult themed drinks, TheGrilledCheeseTruck and Recesstruck food trucks and a live musical performance by the 19-piece, 1930’s New Orleans Orchestra and Cabaret Show, Vaud and the Villians.

‘Thursdays@Newhall’ Series Continues on May 7 with ArtSlam

The City of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series, presented by Galpin Subaru, continues in May with its third installment of the 2015 season.

On Thursday, May 7, from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. the Old Town Newhall Association presents street chalk art at ArtSLAM. Residents can watch more than 20 chalk art pieces take shape while perusing other works on display from local and student artists.

Also on Thursday, May 7, beginning at 7:30 p.m. community members can take part in JAM Sessions, hosted by the Ford Theatre Foundation, as Christine Inouye leads celebratory bon dances, set to ondo music by Japenese folk fusion ensemble Minyo Station.

Senses Rockabilly

On Thursday, May 14, from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. the Revved Up car show will feature traditional rods and customs, specifically 40’s, 50’s and early-60’s vehicles with a primary emphasis on low-buck and home-built using period-correct components. The event will also include music, food trucks and adult beverages. Local residents interested in submitting an automobile for consideration in a future Revved Up Car Show can apply online.

Don masks and formal attire on Thursday, May 21, when SENSES returns with a free Masquerade block party from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The evening will feature the scintillating 19-piece, 1930’s New Orleans Orchestra and Cabaret Show of Vaud and the Villains, food trucks and adult beverages.

On Thursday, May 28, the ARTree Speaker Series, presented in partnership with the CalArts Community Arts Partnership, will feature Los Angeles animator, filmmaker and artist Javier Barboza from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library. Barboza will discuss his surreal and narrative methods of creativity that tackles the complexities of urban life.

Also on Thursday, May 28, beginning at 8 p.m. the SCVTV presents the OutWest Concert Series will host Susie Glaze & The Hilonesome Band, a newgrass Americana folk fusion quintet, at the Repertory East Playhouse. Tickets can be purchased here.

This past weekend, thousands of community members attended the 22nd Annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, presented by Logix Federal Credit Union, which took place at its new location at William S. Hart Park.

Festival goers had the opportunity to explore the history of the William S. Hart Museum and Heritage Junction.

Around Town – Walk of Western Stars 2015 Induction Ceremony: Diamond Farnsworth

On Thursday, April 16, Legendary stuntman Diamond Farnsworth was inducted to the Western Walk of Stars as part of the 2015 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival.

Farnsworth has worked as a film and television stuntman since 1968 and a stunt coordinator since 1980, appearing in more than 50 feature films and more than 500 episodes of primetime television, including “Bonanza” and “How the West Was Won.”

He currently serves as stunt coordinator and stunt double for Mark Harmon on “NCIS.” Diamond is the son of actor and stuntman Richard Farnsworth, who was inducted into the Walk of Western Stars in 2000.

Mayor Marsha McLean and the Santa Clarita City Council presented Diamond Farnsworth with a plaque from the City of Santa Clarita.

The City of Santa Clarita is showcasing a new art exhibit, “Surviving Assimilation: The Contemporary Native American Through the Lens of Peggy Fontenot,” on display now through June 5 in the Community Room at the Old Town Newhall Library.

The photographic art exhibit will feature a collection of images portraying the strength of Native Americans in the face of assimilation.

Peggy Fontenot is an award-winning local artist whose photography has been displayed at the Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian, the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Eiteljorg and Heard Museums, the Autry National Center, the Museum of History and Art Ontario and the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum.

A free public reception to celebrate the exhibit and Fontenot’s work will be held from on Wednesday, February 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Room at the Old Town Newhall Library. Guests will be able to greet Fontenot and enjoy live music and light appetizers.
