Get Your Toga On! Tonight at ‘Senses’ Block Party on Main Street in Old Town Newhall

Community members are invited to join friends and neighbors for fun and exciting activities at tonights Toga! Toga! , the Greek themed SENSES block party happening on Main Street from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. in Old Town Newhall.

Local businesses on Main Street will offer discounts and specials throughout the night at the block party.

The Vu bar and lounge offers a wide variety of authentic greek drinks.

This Thursday, the City invites residents to attend Toga! Toga!, the Greek themed SENSES block party on Main Street from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. in Old Town Newhall.

  

Party goers are encouraged to dress in anything from a simple sheet to a figure of Greek mythology as they enjoy activities, food trucks, live music from the Scattered Suns and themed drinks! Check out a step-by-step guide to help you don the toga fashion here and here.

Togas will rule the street for this months Toga! Toga!, greek themed, SENSES block party coming to Main Street on Thursday, May 17, from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. in Old Town Newhall.

Tomorrow, the Old Town Newhall Association in partnership with the SCV Latino Chamber of Commerce invite community members to celebrate A Taste of Cinco De Mayo happening on Main Street from 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. in Old Town Newhall.

The Cinco de Mayo block party has fun and exciting activites for all ages including arts and crafts, live musical performances, a diverse selection of food trucks and entertainment for the whole family.

Santa Clarita Public Library Celebrated Early Childhood Literacy Event Over Weekend

The Santa Clarita Public Library celebrated the Newhall Library’s first annual Dia De Los Ninos/Dia De Los Libros event (The Day of the Book / Day of the Child) that was held on Saturday, April 28. Over 200 guests enjoyed fun activities like face painting from local face-painting artist, Portia of ‘Tickled Paint’, arts and crafts, and fun storytime activities. 

Claudia Lopez-Gallagher, bilingual educator and library volunteer, gave two bilingual storytimes which had everyone chanting along in two languages. After storytime, children created a simple book of their own to celebrate books and reading.  

Yvette Brandy, a professional storyteller who draws on her background in speech pathology and education, told stories using music, audience participation, and multiple languages.

Old Town Newhall Association Presents ‘Old Town Hoedown’ Dinner and Dance Event Saturday April 21

The Old Town Newhall Association is bringing the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival to Main Street in Old Town Newhall with the newest live entertainment event, The Old Town Hoedown”, on Saturday, April 21, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. There will be dancing, live entertainment by Cody Bryant and his band, food and a full bar.

Dinner tickets are available for $40 per person featuring food from The Egg Plantation and includes entrance. $20 tickets are available for only dancing, entertainment and the bar. Tickets available at the gate.

Thursday: Wild Wild West Event Comes to Main Street for ‘Senses’

In anticipation of the 2012 Cowboy Festival on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, SENSES is dusting off its cowboy boots and hosting a Wild Wild West block party, on Thursday, April 19located on Main Street, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The evening will keep cowboys and cowgirls in the action with mechanical bull rides, cowboy roping and down home country music by Dawson’s Gang. Grab your line-dancing partner and get ready for western exhibitors, themed drinks, and the unveiling of the two inductees into the Walk of Western Stars at 7:30 p.m.

Mixing today’s popular top modern Country with a few old favorites, Dawson’s Gang is guaranteed to rock the house with their Southern Rock meets modern Country music style.

Fashion, Food and Music to Take Over Main Street as “Art & Beauty” Sets the Theme for Thursday Art Walk

“Art and beauty” will be the theme at the Art Walk event this Thursday, April 5, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.on Main Street, between 6th and Market Street, in Old Town Newhall. The event will feature live painting demonstrations, fashion shows, and photo shoots throughout the evening.

Gina Roodes will be performing live music at the Art Walk this Thursday.

Several businesses are participating in this months themed event, including: FRESH Lifestyle Boutique, which will host two fashion shows; the Repertory East Playhouse, where local artist Jane Mick will paint beauty on canvas with the help of a professional model; and Out West Western  Boutique, which will host an art reception to celebrate the works of Donna Weil and her collection of Native American and Southwestern Art.

Next door to the Repertory East Playhouse, there will be a Rockabilly-themed photo shoot, starring local pin-up models posing in front of a vintage motorcycle and hotrods. A car-part exhibit, showcasing a unique 1960’s Volkswagen Beatle, which has been sawed in half and painted by local artist Steve Jasik.

There will also be a food truck and live music by musician Gina Roodes. Around Town: Mayor Ender and Councilmember McLean Tour the New Old Town Newhall Library

Yesterday, Mayor Laurie Ender and Councilmember Marsha McLean visted the construction site at the new Old Town Newhall Library, which is set to open fall 2012.

City Project Manager Harry Corder led a tour around the library construction site.

Once complete, the new Old Town Newhall Library will offer a larger, more modernized facility, reflective of the area’s historic roots.
