Sand Canyon/SR 14 On-Ramp Beautification Project Construction Update

November 18, 2013

In late August, the Santa Clarita City Council held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Sand Canyon Road/ State Route 14 beautification project on the SR-14 on-ramp. Large Oak Trees have been planted all along the on and off ramps.

This beautification project will improve 3.4 acres within the Caltrans rights of way at the Sand Canyon north and south bound on and off ramps. Environmentally-friendly landscaping include sizeable oak trees, shrubs, and grasses, as well as low twisting stone walls and natural colored stone pavers.

Beautification of entry points also helps maintain higher property values and supports the City’s and other business organization’s effort to attract targeted companies to the area. The project is scheduled to be completed in early 2014.

I-5/Magic Mountain Parkway Interchange Northbound off-ramp now open

Today the I-5/Magic Mountain Interchange project (phase 2)  reached a major milestone. The newly widened northbound off-ramp is now open. For approximately one year the northbound off-ramp has detoured along Wayne Mills Place to Tourney Road.

The off-ramp was completley closed for the last 19 days but, with construction coming in ahead of schedule, the regular off-ramp will now be open permanently. In fact, the entire project will be completed in a months time according to City engineer and project manager, James Tong.

The opening of the off-ramp comes right in time for Six Flags Magic Mountain’s busy season. All businesses surrounding the interchange have remained open and will, no doubt, welcome the completion of the project. The I-5/Magic Mountain Interchange is a critical entry point for Santa Clarita and improvements were necessary to accommodate heavy usage.
