Around Town: City Installs New Benches at Aquatics Center

The City’s Parks Maintenance staff has recently installed two new picnic tables in front of the Aquatic Center.

These tables will allow the public a place in the shade to eat and drink outside of the pool deck.

‘Dive-in Movies’ Makes a Splash with ‘The Lego Movie’ this Saturday at the Aquatic Center

The City of Santa Clarita is once again presenting Dive-In Movies this Saturday, July 11, come out relax poolside at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center while enjoying ‘The Lego Movie’.

The cost is $10 per person; families can settle in for a Saturday night at the cinema under the stars from the comfort of a poolside lounge chair or even the pool itself. Registration is highly encouraged to secure a space at the City’s Dive-In Movie event.  Poolside seating is available, or guests can bring their pool amenities, including chairs, inner tubes, noodles or rafts.  Attendees must wear a bathing suit to be in the pool, and children two and under must wear water diapers.  Lifeguards will be on duty for the duration of the night.

Signature movie snacks will also be available for purchase, including drinks, ice cream, pizza, pretzels, nachos and much more.  No outside food or drinks will be allowed.

The City of Santa Clarita is offering an assortment of swimming and diving classes for swimmers of all levels through the months of July and August at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center, Newhall Pool, North Oaks Pool, Santa Clarita Pool, Valencia Glen Pool and Valencia Meadows Pool.

Kids and adults alike can sign up and better their swimming skills in a variety of aquatic classes, including Introduction to Water Skills, Fundamental Aquatic Skills, Stroke Development, Stroke Improvement, Stroke Refinement, Personal Water Safety, Parent/Child Swim Lessons and more. Newhall, North Oaks and Santa Clarita Pools also offer private lessons to children and adults of all ages.

Beginning Dive Class, Stroke Class, Advanced Competitive Stroke Instruction, Adult/Teen Swim Class, SCUBA Diving Class, Stand-up Paddle Boarding and Youth Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Synchronized Swim Teams are also available.

Rescued City Kitty, One Year Later – Home for the Holidays

In early November 2013, a kitten was found up a tree at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, rescued and subsequently adopted by a member of Santa Clarita city staff.

The cat, officially named Pascal, but affectionately known as City Kitty, resembles very little of the frightened kitten that was photographed stuck up a tree one year ago. See the original post here.

Around Town: City Recognizes Volunteers with Pool Party at Santa Clarita Aquatic Center

On September 10, the City of Santa Clarita held a Volunteer Recognition Pool Party at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

Over 160 community members attended the event with friends and families.

This annual appreciation is for the volunteers who have lent their time to two or more City events or programs.

City leaders were on hand to thank the volunteers, including Councilmember Dante Acosta (center) and Assistant City Manager Frank Oviedo (far right).

Twenty-three volunteers were honored with the Loyalty Club award, given to those who volunteered for 100+ hours in Fiscal Year 2013-14.

The ‘6th Annual Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival’ Happening this Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival is being held this Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

The FREE Festival is designed to bring the community together to raise awareness about the important role physical activity plays in the lives of young people.  Admission is free to the public.

In the Healthy Families Experience, presented by Kaiser Permanente, families will have the opportunity to receive important information in a fun environment. In addition, families will be able to learn about food choices in a fun, interactive way, in the Explore the Store! area sponsored by Whole Foods, which includes choosing the colors and flavors of fresh fruit and veggies, and then Create their Plate!, for a free, healthy snack.

The Festival is divided into activity zones offering more than 20 recreational games and activities, including: tennis, golf, football, hockey, volleyball, baseball, rock climbing, interactive fitness equipment, trampoline jumping, and much more.

Some of the region’s biggest names in sports will be represented at the event including the Lancaster JetHawks and many more!

The City of Santa Clarita is once again presenting Dive-In Movies beginning on Friday, July 11, which allows residents to relax poolside at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center while enjoying their favorite PG-rated films.

For just $7 per person, families can settle in for a Friday night at the cinema under the stars from the comfort of a poolside lounge chair or even the pool itself.  All Dive-In Movies start at 7 p.m. with this year’s lineup including Monster’s University on July 11, Despicable Me 2 on July 25, and The Smurfs 2 on August 8.

Residents interested in learning how to scuba dive are invited to attend an orientation for the City’s Scuba Diving Class, which is open to underwater enthusiasts ages 13 and over. The orientation will be held on Thursday, April 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.
