A new season of Disney XD’s “Next X,” which was filmed on location at the Santa Clarita Skate Park, premiered last night.  If you missed this first episode, you can still watch it during one of the many rebroadcasts.

“Next X” is a six-part action-packed reality sports series featuring professional skateboarders Bucky Lasek and Rune Glifberg and professional BMX riders Daniel Dhers and Gary Young.  The sports celebs are paired up with four talented amateur kids, ages 9-11, to mentor the amateurs and help sharpen their technical skills, perform new tricks and become the next generation’s action sports superstars.

The production team chose to film the show in Santa Clarita after visiting multiple skate parks in Los Angeles.  The series was shot over a period of four days at the Skate Park and the Sports Complex.  As a token of their appreciation, the production company made a donation to the City’s S.C.O.R.E. program, which provides scholarships to underprivileged youth to participate in classes and sports leagues offered by the City’s Recreation division.

New episodes of “Next X” will air every Monday night until July 26th.  Check out the show’s website for more info and scheduled air dates.

City of Santa Clarita Recognized for Water Efficiency

June 22, 2010

The City of Santa Clarita was recently recognized for its water efficiency practices.

Water Efficiency, a nation-wide journal for professional water managers, recently recognized the City of Santa Clarita for its water conservation practices and for advocating the use of automated, weather-tuned irrigation controllers to manage the City’s Landscape Maintenance Division (LMD) operations.  In the July/August 2010 edition, Water Efficiency identified Santa Clarita’s program to replace 430 City-wide obsolete irrigation controllers as the “world’s largest smart water management system ever installed anywhere.

The City of Santa Clarita is responsible for maintaining over 700 acres of landscaping.

The City’s LMD operation is responsible for maintaining more than 700 acres of landscaping throughout 40 individual landscape zones throughout the community.  As such, the effective management of water usage is and will continue to be a top priority for the City.  To date, staff has replaced 103 existing irrigation controllers with an additional 63 devices scheduled to be replaced before the end of this summer.  Smart irrigation controllers represent the foundation of Santa Clarita’s LMD water management program and when fully phased in will reduce the City’s LMD irrigation water usage by approximately 180 million gallons each year.
