NOMAD Lab Youth Art Program Begins

On June 19, the summer session of the NOMAD Lab Youth Art Program, which is supported by the Anti-Gang Task Force,  began  Over 50 youth participated in visual arts, writing, music, and painting workshops provided by volunteer CalArts students. 

Workshops will be held on Saturdays through August in an apartment in the Village Apartment complex provided by GHP Management. 

The program is part of the Valle del Oro committee’s efforts to provide positive options for youth in the area as a deterrent to gang involvement and crime. For more information on the NOMAD program click here.

The Anti-Gang Task Force East Newhall Neighborhood Committee Meets with Police Chief Becker

Santa Clarita Police Captain Paul Becker meets with members of Anti-Gang Task Force.

On June 23, the East Newhall Neighborhood Committee met to address neighborhood concerns and had the opportunity to meet the new Sheriff’s Captain Paul Becker.  The Captain spoke about his extensive law enforcement career and his commitment to protecting the community. 

Committee members shared their concerns about crime, gangs, and drug use in the community.  A committee member also provided a tip to law enforcement which resulted in an arrest later that evening.  This is the second such tip provided by a committee member that has led to an arrest of a gang member in the neighborhood.

Family Movies Nights on Town Square Continue at Westfield this Wednesday

Family Movie Nights on Town Square, presented by the Westfield Valencia Town Center, will feature Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs this Wednesday. Seating is first come-first served, but guests showing their WFamily cards have the opportunity to take advantage of limited-amount reserved seating.  Guests may also bring their own chairs. Town Square is located at the end of Town Center Drive between Sisley and TGI Friday’s. The movie  will begin at sunset.

Immigration Education Meeting June 28 at Activities Center

The Santa Clarita City Council will host a Special Meeting on Immigration Education on Monday, June 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the City’s Activities Center. The meeting will feature three separate presentations on the various complex issues relating to immigration. Following the presentations the public will have an opportunity to speak and the City Council will discuss the issue. 

The Santa Clarita Activities Center is located at located at 20880 Centre Point Parkway with the meeting held in the Santa Clarita Room A & B. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Toy Story 2 Characters Greet Residents at Popcorn and a Movie

Last week residents attending the Popcorn and a Movie event at the City of Santa Clarita’s Activities Center got to meet characters from the feature Toy Story 2. The next Popcorn and a Movie feature will be July 9 with a showing of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

Farmers Market Today on Main Street From 3 to 7 P.M.

The weekly Farmers Market on Main Street in Old Town Newhall offers a good opportunity to stock up on locally grown healthy food from professional grocers.  Purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods by stopping by the Farmers Market, in Old Town Newhall, every Thursday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The City of Santa Clarita’s Farmers Market is located on Main Street between 6th Street and Market.
