Arts and Literacy Festival Happening Saturday

This Week In Santa Clarita spends a “Community Minute” talking about the Arts and Literacy Festival with one of the event organizers.

On Saturday, December 5, the Literacy and Arts Festival, presented by the Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation and the City of Santa Clarita will be held at Hart Park from 10 am to 3pm. The event features five storytelling tents (mystery, humor, adventure, sci-fi, and all American), over 60 booths of local arts and literary organizations, and many performances including African storytelling, Polynesian dancing, and local school choirs. 

New this year is the Book Exchange, bring a book to the festivities to exchange for a free book.  For more information, visit www.scveducationfoundation.org.

Sports Complex Phase 4 Expansion Now Open

Mayor Ferry, the Santa Clarita City Council, dignitaries and special guest Tank the Bulldog where all on hand to celebrate the opening of the Phase IV Expansion of the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

The exspansion includes two new lighted basketball courts, seating areas and walkways, among other amenities, but Wednesday December 2, it was all about the new dog park, Canine Country.

Word has spread about the new dog park with the four legged Santa Clarita residents and their two legged companions chomping at the bit to get a crack at the new  park.

When the gates opened the dogs new immediatley what to do.

Dogs and humans alike now have their own place at the City’s Sports Complex in Canyon Country.

Holiday Toy Express Heading To Newhall Train Station Friday

Check out the Holiday Toy Express at the Newhall Metrolink Station Friday

This Friday, the Holiday Toy Express will present two back-to-back holiday shows at the Newhall Metrolink station, one for each side of the train, to accommodate attendees. The Old Town Newhall Association will also be on hand at the Newhall stop to treat guests to complimentary hot chocolate and cookies.  The holiday fun starts at 7:30 at the Jan Heidt Metrolink Station in Old Town Newhll, December 4.
