Driving around town you may notice some new bus shelter posters being installed. As part of the promotion for the upcoming City of Santa Clarita Festival of the Arts, presented by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, the City and Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee commissioned 10 works of art for the Art Stop Project, part of the Art in Public Places program. Each piece of art chosen is displayed at a bus stop shelter around town. Santa Clarita City Briefs will be posting all winning pieces of art leading up to the festival.

Artist: Romeo Downer

Title (two submissions): Ebonies in Motion and Ladies Night

Information about artwork: Romeo Downer grew up in Barbados in the Caribbean.  He now lives in Santa Clarita and returns often to his roots to visit friends and family as well as to gather fresh material for his art.  The subjects of his paintings and his style are mainly influenced by his Caribbean culture.  His medium is oil and his canvases range in sizes from 8” x 10” to about 40” x 60”.

At home, all available wall space is devoted to his work — a feast of color. Brilliant tropical greens, parrot reds, cheerful yellows, and warm browns punctuate his work.  His goal is to show to the world the colorful people and places of the Caribbean as he sees them.Website: http://CaribbeanArtist.com
