The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station offers a free vacation check service for residents going out of town. Basically, residents sign up for the service and then a Sheriff’s deputy will check on the home while the occupants are away. Signing up is easy and can be done on-line through an eService request form. There are several other steps residents can take to help protect their homes and properties, but requesting a vacation check can add extra protection and piece of mind. Other steps recommended by the Sheriff’s Department are:
Have good locks on the doors and windows, and USE THEM! Engrave your valuables with your California driver’s license number (Preceded by CA) and post “Operation ID” stickers in entry doors and windows. Never leave your house key hidden outside under a doormat, in a flower pot or on the ledge of a door. Make sure your house appears “Lived in.” Use timers for lights and radios. Have a neighbor or friend pick up mail, packages and newspapers. Keep the lawn mowed and watered. Leave trip plans and an emergency phone number with trusted neighbors or friends.
