The City of Santa Clarita is working to address the issue of abandoned shopping carts in the Newhall area. City staff has notified the cart retrieval companies that service the stores whose abandoned carts are found on the street.  The City was told that the shopping carts would be removed within forty-eight (48) hours and taken to their designated locations.  If these shopping carts are not removed from the location, the city will confiscate the carts and notify the businesses.

On April 24, 2009 letters were sent to  50 businesses within our City that provide shopping cart service to their store patrons.  In this letter, the businesses were informed of the nuisance and potential safety hazard that abandoned shopping carts are creating in our City.
