
May is National Building and Safety Month, and week two of the National awareness holiday focuses on Disaster Mitigation. Getting into the spirit of the event, the City of Santa Clarita is providing residents with important safety tips to help community members to become better prepared for disasters.

Residents are encouraged to secure home exit routes, plan on a common meeting place to use if family members are separated, create a disaster supply kit and secure outdoor lawn furniture or loose outdoor items to withstand high winds. Santa Clarita community members are especially reminded of important brush fire preparedness measures: remove dead grass and leaves within 30 feet of a building and clear all rain gutters. roofs, decks and walkways of dead foliage, pine needles and other flammable material.
