2013 Amgen Tour of California is Finally Here!

The Stage 3 Finish of the Amgen Tour of California is coming to Santa Clarita today! Cycling fans can watch the racers cross the finish line at approximately 3:45 p.m. at the northeast corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Citris Avenue. Attendees can also enjoy the free Lifestyle Event from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the parking lot at the northeast corner of the Westfield Valencia Town Center. This Week in Santa Clarita previews the 2013 Amgen Tour of California coming to the City of Santa Clarita with the Stage 3 Finish on Tuesday, May 14, and a Stage 4 Start on Wednesday, May 15.

Many cycling events will surround this years Amgen Tour of California, including:

Preceding the Finish stage on Tuesday, May 14, spectators are invited to join Breakaway from Cancer Santa Clarita Champion and local resident, Nancy Eckels for the Breakaway Mile, a special half to one-mile walk that honors and celebrates cancer survivors worldwide.

The event is free to the public and participants will receive special t-shirts to wear at the event and are invited to view the race action from a private, reserved viewing area.  The walk will begin at 2 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz of Valencia located at 23355 Valencia Boulevard. Around Town: ‘Teen Scene Plugged In’ at College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center

Last night, the City of Santa Clarita hosted Teen Scene Plugged-In at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center. This program informed parents about today’s teen culture and gave them tools to connect and understand their teen’s daily life and issues.

Anti-drug organizations from around the City including A Light of Hope and ACTION provided helpful information to parents about the social and academic pressures teens face everyday at the resource fair.

Councilmember Frank Ferry spoke about personal experiences as being the principle of Alemany High School and the teen issues he comes across.

Kathy Hunter, Director of Student Services at William S. Hart Union High School District, spoke aabout “toxic” parenting issues and pressures faced by teens.
