Canyon Country Community Center Offers Fun Filled Summer Excursion to Ventura Cove Beach

The Canyon Country Community Center is offering community members an exciting summer excursion to the Ventura Harbor Village and Harbor Cove Beach happening this Saturday, August 1, with the bus leaving at 8:30 a.m. and returning at 4:30 p.m.

Admission is only $10, membership is required to the community center. Registration is currently being accepted. Parents must attend with anyone 17 and younger. Space is limited.

Registration for L.E.A.P. Opens Tomorrow

The first session of the Leisure Enrichment Activities Program (L.E.A.P) program for the 2015-2016 school year begins on Monday, August 17, 2015. The program will be at both Canyon Country Community Center and Newhall Community Center. Online registration for the after school program begins on Tuesday, July 28 at 8:00 a.m. Walk-in registration begins at both Community Centers on Monday, August 3.

L.E.A.P., is a school-year, structured program offering K – 6th grade students opportunities to participate in homework help, reading time, enrichment activities, crafts, games and more. L.E.A.P. is available Monday – Friday from 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Canyon Country Community Center and Monday – Friday from 3:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at Newhall Community Center.

City to Host Second Public Meeting for New Canyon Country Community Center July 15

The City of Santa Clarita will host a second public workshop to discuss the Master Development Plan for the proposed Canyon Country Community Center on Wednesday, July 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Community Room at the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library.

A public engagement process completed in the spring of 2015 generated a conceptual floor plan for the proposed 20,000 square feet community center facility which will be located on a recently purchased 6.5 acre site at Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway.

Following a successful first public workshop, the project architects are returning to present a draft concept plan based on feedback received to date. The goal of the workshop is to collect any additional thoughts and ideas from members of the public for the exterior improvements that will surround the new community center facility.

The City of Santa Clarita is inviting community members to attend the first public workshop on the future site of the Canyon Country Community Center which will take place on Monday, May 9, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room at the Canyon Country Library.

On Friday, April 17, Sheriff Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station paid a visit the Leisure Enrichment Activities Program (L.E.A.P.) students as part of their Enrichment Friday Series at the Canyon Country Community Center.

The students and deputies discussed topics ranging from their careers in law enforcement to popular social trends and current events.

Students were able to interact with the officers by asking questions, watch demonstrations and explore the inside of a police cruiser.

FALL INTO FUN AT THE CANYON COUNTRY COMMUNITY CENTER

Santa Clarita residents can stay active this fall with several free and low-cost offerings at the Canyon Country Community Center. Registration is now open for a variety of programs, including a new circuit training fitness class and the return of a popular swing dance event.

Local adults 40 and older can wear their best dapper duds and dancing shoes for an evening at the Big Band Dance on Tuesday, September 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Canyon Country Community Center. Attendees will be able to jump and jive while listening to the music of the big band era. Admission is free with membership to the Canyon Country Community Center.

Registration is also available for the Canyon Country Community Center’s new SMART ProTrainer Circuit class for adults. On Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. through October 30, attendees of all fitness levels will burn calories with strength training, explosive plyometric moves and speed training incorporating the Community Center’s SMART ProTrainer interactive fitness wall. The SMART ProTrainer Circuit is available at $5 per class.
