LA County Fire Station 126 Invites Community Members for Water Safety Day Expo June 2

The L.A. County Fire Department is inviting community members to attend a FREE Water Safety Expo on Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station #126, located at 26320 Citrus Street.

The Expo will feature food trucks, games, entertainment, giveaways, and teach families about water safety. Click here for the LA County Fire’s water safety list.

Santa Clarita Public Library Offers New Library Card Collection Made by Local Youth

Residents looking for a fun and colorful new library card can now select from 10 new library card designs available at the Santa Clarita Public Library. This limited edition library card collection features art from local youth and a variety of community landmarks.

A Santa Clarita Public Library card provides access to a variety of resources and services. In addition to borrowing materials, a library card can be used to reserve computers, download digital media, search hundreds of electronic databases, and more.

For patrons receiving their first library card, the new card is free, but existing patrons wanting a new card must pay a $1 replacement fee.

To receive a new library card visit any of the City’s three branches located in Canyon Country, Newhall and Valencia. Community members will need to show either a valid California Driver License with a current address or two forms of identification, one showing their identity and the other indicating a mailing address in California.

Cowboy Festival Themed ‘Senses’ Block Party Coming to Main Street April 19

SENSES is dusting off its cowboy boots in preparation for the Wild Wild West themed block party on Thursday, April 19, located on Main Street, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in conjuction with the 2012 Cowboy Festival

The evening will keep cowboys and cowgirls in the action with mechanical bull rides, cowboy roping and down home country music.  Grab your line-dancing partner and get ready for gourmet food trucks, western exhibitors, and themed drinks.

Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Expo Tomorrow at Valencia Hyatt Parking Lot

Tomorrow, the Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Expo will be at the Valencia Hyatt parking lot from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Expo will promote how to be ready and prepared for any disasters.

With many sights and activities, the Emergency Expo is an event for the entire family to enjoy. Visit with Smokey the Bear, pet a Search and Rescue horse and develop your own emergency ‘Earthquake Kit’. Emergency vehicles will fill the parking lot with fire engines, police cars and KHTS’ very own 1948 Mack Fire Truck. Admission is free and open to the public.

2012 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival Performer Spotlight: Cow Bop

Santa Clarita City Briefs is spotlighting performers appearing at the 2012 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, presented by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, at the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio. The festival is running from April 19 – 22 in Santa Clarita, California.

Cow Bop

Mix Mixing swingin’ grooves, thrilling improvisation, sweet vocals, acoustic western sensibilities and tons of fun, Cow Bop blew folks away on our Main Street stages last year.

Formed in 2003 by internationally-acclaimed guitarist Bruce Forman, this jazz and western swing band has toured extensively throughout the country, exciting audiences with their unique brand of American music.

Their CD, Swingin’ Out West, released in 2004, charted on Americana, Jazz, College and Adult Contemporary radio stations. Bruce’s playing was featured in Clint Eastwood’s Academy Award winning film, Million Dollar Baby.
