This project will improve safety at this intersection by relocating the existing signal poles and signal heads for better visibility, adding an additional signal head in a proposed median along Newhall Avenue, and installing a median along Railroad Avenue to direct vehicles into the appropriate receiving lanes. Additionally, this project will reduce the distance for pedestrians to cross Railroad Avenue by creating a pedestrian refuge area in the bulb-out.
This project will construct a bulb-out at the intersection of Newhall Avenue and Railroad Avenue, medians on Newhall Avenue and Railroad Avenue, and modify the traffic signal to accommodate the new improvements. The project includes planting and irrigation in the median along Railroad Avenue and in the bulb-out, concrete brick pavers, stabilized decomposed granite, boulders, sandstone finish bollards and a trash receptacle in the bulb-out, and revised signing and striping.
Construction is scheduled to start on July 25, 2016 and will last approximately six weeks during the hours of 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. (night work). Please contact the project manager, Monica Heredia, at (661) 255-4332 or mheredia@santa-clarita.com for any questions.
