Around Town: Teens Find Summer Jobs Through Youth Employment Services’ Program

This summer over 30 local businesses partnered with the City to mentor and train Santa Clarita Valley teens in the summer program.
Marlene helps customers and learn responsibilities at Old Navy.
Since 1991, the City of Santa Clarita’s Youth Employment Services (YES), program has helped special-needs, low-income and at-risk youth, ages 14-18 years old, obtain job skills training and employment.
Alex Fitchmun works with Famous Footwear to help restock shoes.
The program seeks to help participants become acclimated to the workforce and secure job offers or good references for future employment

Get Disco Fever at Tonight’s ‘Senses on Main’ Block Party in Old Town Newhall

The City’s Senses On Main monthly block party will feature a 70′s themed extravaganza tonight, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
There will be activities at the game lounge where attendees can challenge each other at Foosball and air hockey, or create their own pet rock.
Party-goers who dress up “70′s” will receive a two dollar off drink coupon at the photo booth. The event will also feature live entertainment from the Disco Fever Band and dancing.
Local businesses on Main Street will offer discounts and specials throughout the night at the block party. Gourmet food trucks at SENSES this Thursday will include Grill ‘Em All, Mandoline Grill, Philly Please and King Kone.
