Yesterday, the West Creek Academy Elementary School held an assembly about the importance of building safe and efficient bridges in Santa Clarita.
Damon Letz and John Caprarelli from the City’s Building & Safety Department demonstrated to the 4th graders different types and styles of bridges.
The students built their own version of bridges out of popsicle sticks and had them put to the test by placing stacks of books on top of them to see how much weight they could sustain.
The highest number of books that one of the groups bridges could sustain was 17 books (5 pounds each), which is 85 pounds.
