Mayor Laurie Ender and Councilmember Marsha McLean were on hand today as the City of Santa Clarita dedicated new expansion projects at the Community Center.
The City received $950,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant funds to add 95 additional spaces to the Newhall Metrolink parking lot which represents a 42 percent increase in parking.
Ray Tellis of the U.S. Department of Transportation talked about how the parking expansion was a good example of ARRA funded projects adding jobs to communities.
Additionally, the City was able to development a new half-acre passive recreation area behind the Community Center. The new half-acre passive recreation area includes benches, picnic tables, new landscaping, walkways and irrigated planting areas. The passive recreation area was funded by Quimby funds.
