Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Expo Tomorrow at Valencia Hyatt Parking Lot

Tomorrow, the Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Expo will be at the Valencia Hyatt parking lot from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Expo will promote how to be ready and prepared for any disasters.

With many sights and activities, the Emergency Expo is an event for the entire family to enjoy. Visit with Smokey the Bear, pet a Search and Rescue horse and develop your own emergency ‘Earthquake Kit’. Emergency vehicles will fill the parking lot with fire engines, police cars and KHTS’ very own 1948 Mack Fire Truck. Admission is free and open to the public.

Valencia High School Video Production Program Collaborates with City’s Graffiti Task Force to make Graffiti PSA Video

2012 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival Performer Spotlight: Dave Stamey

Santa Clarita City Briefs is spotlighting performers appearing at the 2012 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, presented by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, at the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio. The festival is running from April 19 – 22 in Santa Clarita, California.

Dave Stamey has been bucked off many horses, stepped on by mules and dragged around branding pens by angry cattle of various sizes. He’s ridden in the rain, in the snow, in pretty nasty heat, and in feedlot pens where the air was thick and decidedly fragrant. He’s even wrangled dudes.

He’s an entertainer now. He finds he prefers this.Dave has been awarded the Male Performer of the Year by the Western Music Association, is a three time nominee for Songwriter of the Year, and is rapidly becoming one of the most popular Western entertainers working today.

Over the years he has appeared at The Autry Museum of Western Heritage, The Elko Cowboy Poetry Gathering, The Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, The Live Oak Festival, The Strawberry Folk Festival, Michael Martin Murphy’s WestFest, The Nashville Extravaganza, The National Cattleman’s Beef Association, and The Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering

City Launches New Website to Help Residents Find Hiking Trails in Open Space Areas

The City of Santa Clarita has launched a new open space and hiking trails website called HikeSantaClarita.com.  This new website will help hiking, biking and equestrian enthusiasts find local open space areas and hiking trails to enjoy.

The site includes a maps that will show you each of the open space areas, along with trail information.

City Hosts 3rd Annual Splash and Dash Egg Hunt at Santa Clarita Aquatic Center April 7

The City of Santa Clarita will host the 3rd Annual Splash and Dash Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

Participants at the free event will enjoy the pool and collect eggs and fun prizes. Free life jackets will be provided and attendees are invited to stay and play in the heated pools following the event.

Lights, Camera, Action! Commercial Shoot at the Valencia Auto Center on Creekside Road

Yesterday, film crews were at the Valencia Auto Center filming a commercial at the Toyota dealership on Creekside Road.

In 2011, commercial filming represented 18% of all film days for the year.

In 2011, location filming contributed $19 million to the local economy as a result of production spending.

City Hosts Annual Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt at Central Park April 7

The City of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the Saugus Action Committee, is hosting the annual Eggstravaganza event on Saturday, April 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at Central Park.

Families can come out and have a great time collecting eggs and have an opportunity to meet the “Bunny” for a photo. There is no registration required. The event is free and open to the public.

Around Town: Mayor Ender and Councilmember McLean Tour the New Old Town Newhall Library

Yesterday, Mayor Laurie Ender and Councilmember Marsha McLean visted the construction site at the new Old Town Newhall Library, which is set to open fall 2012.

City Project Manager Harry Corder led a tour around the library construction site.

Once complete, the new Old Town Newhall Library will offer a larger, more modernized facility, reflective of the area’s historic roots.

2012 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival Performer Spotlight: Brenn Hill

Santa Clarita City Briefs is spotlighting performers appearing at the 2012 Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, presented by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, at the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio. The festival is running from April 19 – 22 in Santa Clarita, California.

Brenn Hill has been writing great original Western music since the age of 16. That was also the year he made his first appearance at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

Since that time he’s garnered many awards and lots of praise for his talent, smooth vocals and compelling songwriting.

Around Town: City Plants Oak Trees on Bike Trail near Fallen Warriors Memorial Bridge

March 27, 2012

On Saturday, March 24, the City of Santa Clarita and volunteers from the Latter-Day Saints planted three new oak trees near the Fallen Warriors Memorial Bridge.

Installation included planting  three 30″ inch box trees, which were donated by Mike Lyons and provided by Green’s Nursery.

Volunteers also installed 15 feet of linear root barriers along the bike trail.
