Register for the Santa Clarita Marathon Today and Take Advantage of Early Bird Rates

Today is the last day to take advantage of early registration prices for the 2011 annual Santa Clarita Marathon and events taking place on Sunday, November 6, 2011.

Lower registration rates remain valid until 11:59 p.m. tonight.  Registration for all events remains open until November 5, 2011.

Events include the Marathon (26.2 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 5K Run, a 3-mile Mayors Walk (perfect for families, groups, and troops), and Kid K for children 12 and under.

On Wednesday, September 28, Mayor Marsha McLean and Mayor Pro Tem Laurie Ender helped more than 30 Granada Villa community kids with their after-school reading program.

Santa Clarita City Council Invites Community Members to the 2011 State of the City Luncheon

Mayor Marsha McLean and the Santa Clarita City Council are inviting residents, businesses, and community leaders to the annual State of the City Luncheon on Thursday, October 13, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Valencia.

The cost of the luncheon is $40 per person or $400 for a table of 10, and includes a commemorative gift. The event is open to the public with advanced reservations.

Santa Clarita Jazz Festival Happening this Weekend

The Santa Clarita Jazz Festival is coming to the Valencia Country Club this Friday and Saturday.  The festival will begin on Friday September 30 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. and on Saturday, October 1 from 12  noon - 10 p.m. 

There will be live performances by the Ultimate Promotion all-star band and nationally renowned recording artists: Gerald Albright, Rick Braun, Diane Schuur, Everette Harp, and Jeff Lorber with Eric Marienthal on sax.

Around Town: 2011 River Rally

Mayor Pro Tem Laurie Ender (left center) and Mayor Marsha McLean (right center) were on hand to help clean up the river.

There were over 1,400 participants at the River Rally.

Over 21,000 pounds of trash was removed from the river.

‘Day for Kids’ Carnival this Saturday at Newhall Park

Every year, Americans celebrate Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and even Groundhog’s Day. The City of Santa Clarita thinks it time to honor children by celebrating a Day for Kids. Families in Santa Clarita will enjoy a free kid’s carnival, open to the public on Saturday, September 24, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at Newhall Park.

Santa Clarita Youth Invited to Compete in NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Competition

Want a chance to participate in one of the NFL’s longest-standing youth football traditions? The City of Santa Clarita will host a NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition for kids between the ages of 6 and 15 on Wednesday, September 21, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., at Central Park Fields #7 and #8.

The competition will include boys and girls divisions broken down by age: 8/9, 10/11, 12/13 and 14/15. The winner of each boy’s and girl’s age division will qualify to represent Santa Clarita at the Sectional Competition in October at Jesse Owens County Park. The top four scorers among the Team Championships first-place finalists in each age division will advance to the National Finals, held at an NFL Playoff game in January.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. For more information on the event, contact Richard Carr, Recreation Supervisor, at (661) 250-3756.
