SCV Search & Rescue Team 12 Hikes in 12 Weeks Challenge

This Week In Santa Clarita previews the upcoming SCV Search and Rescue Team Challenge. The Challenge begins March 12, with sign ups at Towsley Canyon at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sign ups can also be done by sending in the application here. Santa Clarita Food Truck Festival this Saturday at Central Park

The Santa Clarita Food Truck Festival, presented by Drink Eat Play, will take place this Saturday at Central Park rain or shine. The festival, originally scheduled for Saturday February 19, was postponed due to weather and rescheduled for this Saturday, February 26. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased for $5 and allow admission from noon to 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on-site for $10, with admission between the hours of 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The price of admission grants access to over 50 gourmet food trucks. Food must be purchased separately and is not included with the price of admission.

City Receives ‘Award of Achievement’ for Great American Campout and Discovery Park

The City of Santa Clarita received the Award of Achievement from the California Park & Recreation Society for the great American Campout event and the new Discovery Park. The City will receive recognition at the 2011 California and Pacific Southwest Recreation and Park Training Conference.

The Great American Campout features hundreds of families camping out at Central Park.

The Great American Campout, awarded in the health and Wellness category, saw hundreds of campers descend on Central Park last year for the inaugural campout. The event returns on June 25, 2011, offering residents the opportunity to spend a beautiful summer evening under the stars and experience the outdoors with fun activities for the whole family. Space is limited and registration begins February 22, register online at santa-clarita.com/campout.

Discovery Park was recognized for its unique features.

 In the Park Planning and Design Category, Discovery Park was specifically recognized for the park’s unique features of integrating community needs while restoring ecological function to the land.

Canyon Country Library Now Open!

The Jo Anne Darcy Canyon Country library reopened today following a remodeling project that resulted in an expansion of the library.

Volunteers Needed for Bruin Wave Woman’s Golf Invitational

The 2011 Bruin Wave Woman's Golf Invitational will be played at Robinson Ranch.

The 2011 Bruin Wave Woman’s Golf Invitational is looking for volunteers. The event will take place at Robinson Ranch in Santa Clarita, CA on Monday, February 28 – Wednesday, March 2.

Pepperdine & UCLA, two of the nation’s best women’s programs, are hosting the national collegiate tournament in the City of Santa Clarita. Participants include Arizona, BYU, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northridge, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Stanford, UCLA, UNLV, University of Texas & Washington State.

There are opportunities:

  • Score keepers
  • Shuttle Drivers
  • Spotters
  • Shifts vary (4-5 hours beginning 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.)

City Seeks Input with Library Online Survey

The City of Santa Clarita is looking for input from local residents with a new online library survey. The City is hoping to recieve information from residents on everything from hours of operation to what kind of services the City library system should offer. The City of Santa Clarita is assuming control of the Canyon Country, Newhall and Valencia libraries from the County of Los Angeles in July 2011.
