November 30, 2010

Community gardening is coming to Central Park.

This Friday, December 3 at 10 a.m., the Santa Clarita City Council will break ground on the new community garden project at Central Park introducing a growing trend to the Santa Clarita. The community gardens at Central Park will enable residents to enjoy their own fresh, pesticide and preservative free vegetables, harvested from their own plots.

There will be approximately 40 plots, each 10’ x 20’ that will be available for a nominal annual rental fee. The City is announcing plans along with the Community Garden Management committee who are actively seeking funds and materials to complete the project. Beginning gardeners as well as experienced gardeners are encouraged to apply for a plot.

Community gardening at Central Park is set to open in March of 2011.

As with the rest of the Country, local non-profits have struggled in the down economy and are welcoming holiday season generosity from their friends and neighbors.

“Look Who’s Speeding” Campaign Looks At Local Drivers To Be Aware For Holiday Season

November 24, 2010

Ad campaign reminds residents to be cautious of their speed during this Holiday season

One of the top traffic complaints expressed by Santa Clarita residents is neighborhood speeding, especially during this Holiday season.  In an effort to remind drivers that speeding is both unlawful and unsafe, the City and the Sheriff’s Department have re-launched their “Look Who’s Speeding Through your Neighborhood” awareness campaign. “Look Who’s Speeding Through Your Neighborhood” bus shelters, showing a mirror and a reminder to slow down, have been posted at several bus shelters City wide.  The posters will serve as a visual reminder to passing motorists to slow down for the Holidays.

The Sheriff’s studied patterns of vehicles traveling at unsafe speeds through neighborhoods and their results showed the majority of incidents coming from residents who lived in the very same neighborhoods.  So be careful and be safe this Holiday season, and remember to drive safely around your neighborhoods.
