Distance Markings Added to South Fork Trail

August 12, 2010

Distance markers were recently added to the South Fork Trail.

The City has developed a system for trail users to determine distance while traveling on the Class I trails.  Recently, new pavement markings of 12-inch white triangles pointing in the direction of travel were set in ½-mile increments along the South Fork Trail, from the Magic Mountain Trailhead south to the end of the trail at Orchard Village Road.

The image on the left shows the white triangle painted on the trail. The image on the right is the sign that accompanies the markers.

Signage for the markers was also installed at various trail access points.  If the new markers are a success, the City will continue with markers on additional Class I trails.  The new mileage system was developed as a result of requests from trail users to be able to measure walks, training runs, and bike rides.

The measuring system will be of great benefit to runners preparing for the City’s Annual Marathon in November. For more information on City trails, including bicycle safety and trail etiquette, please contact Tom Reilly, Park Development Administrator for the City at 661-255-4394 or visit check out more information on City trails here.
