City of Santa Clarita Film Office Adds Incentives, Streamlines Process for Hiring Sheriffs.

The City of Santa Clarita has developed many ways to streamline location filming.

The City of Santa Clarita’s Film Office has added more incentives to help encourage local filming and will now coordinate the process of securing Sheriffs assigned to film productions working in the City of Santa Clarita.  This new policy includes a more streamlined hiring process, eliminating the need for productions to work through the downtown Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office.  It also reduces production costs by offering the same hourly rate the City pays for services, which means $10 or more per hour less in savings over current rates.

The change in policy is a direct result of the City’s Film Incentive Program (FIP) which was passed unanimously by the City Council in April 2009 as part of the 21-Point Business Plan for Progress.  The FIP provides subsidization/refunds of film permit fees for locally based and recurring productions, refunds of occupancy tax paid as part of a production related hotel stay, and now a substantial cost savings to productions on Sheriff fees.
