City Reminds Residents to “Be Counted” for 2010 Census

The 2010 Census will help to allocate more than $400 billion in Federal funding.

Just over one week remains for residents to fill out and submit their 2010 Census forms, and the City is reminding residents to ‘Be Counted’ in the confidential survey.  Currently, 65 percent of households Nationwide have mailed back their census forms, with Santa Clarita’s participation rate ranking at around 71 percent. Census data are used to apportion local community services and congressional seats to states, and helps distribute more than $400 billion in important federal funds.

Mayor Weste celebrated the Grand Opening of the local Census office earlier this year.

Coincidentally, thousands of volunteers in more than 6,000 neighborhoods are planning to participate in parades, marches, rallies an motorcades this Saturday, April 10 for “March to the Mailbox”, which is designed  to remind Americans that it’s not too late to mail back their forms and be included in the important Census count. The 2010 Census form is one of the shortest in U.S. history, consisting of 10 questions, taking about 10 minutes to complete. Residents who need replacement forms can contact the Santa Clarita “Be Counted” site at (661) 414-3140.
