City Reminds Residents to “Be Counted” for 2010 Census

The 2010 Census will help to allocate more than $400 billion in Federal funding.

Just over one week remains for residents to fill out and submit their 2010 Census forms, and the City is reminding residents to ‘Be Counted’ in the confidential survey.  Currently, 65 percent of households Nationwide have mailed back their census forms, with Santa Clarita’s participation rate ranking at around 71 percent. Census data are used to apportion local community services and congressional seats to states, and helps distribute more than $400 billion in important federal funds.

Mayor Weste celebrated the Grand Opening of the local Census office earlier this year.

Coincidentally, thousands of volunteers in more than 6,000 neighborhoods are planning to participate in parades, marches, rallies an motorcades this Saturday, April 10 for “March to the Mailbox”, which is designed  to remind Americans that it’s not too late to mail back their forms and be included in the important Census count. The 2010 Census form is one of the shortest in U.S. history, consisting of 10 questions, taking about 10 minutes to complete. Santa Clarita Ranks Among Top Wealth Centers in U.S.

Santa Clarita ranks in the top 15 percent of U.S. cities surveyed for the study.

According to a recent study conducted by, the Santa Clarita community ranks among the Top Wealth Centers in the United States. The study included 420 communities with populations above 75,000, and Santa Clarita ranked among the top 15% of all surveyed communities. Coming in at #51, the City’s top notch ranking helps to affirm Santa Clarita’s strong economic position compared with the national economy.

The judging factors for the stude included aspects such as median income, per capita income, median home value, and more. Only five Southern California communities ranked ahead of Santa Clarita –  Newport Beach, Irvine, Pasadena, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.
