Santa Clarita resident Humberto Lara, who is affected by Alzheimer’s disease, received a Project Lifesaver bracelet Monday made available by the City and the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging. Mr. Lara raised concern recently when he wandered from his family for a period of days before being found. He was safely returned to his home, but the incident caught the attention of the City, Sheriff’s Department and Committee on Aging who together manage Project Lifesaver and jointly reached out to the family to issue Mr. Lara a location detection bracelet.
The Project Lifesaver program is designed to help Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputies recover individuals who go missing, including those diagnosed with medical issues such as Alzheimer’s and Autism who are non-verbal and tend to wander. Location bracelets are issued as part of the program and are produced in conjunction with LoJack. The bracelets use radio frequency waves to help pinpoint the exact location of individuals who go missing, and help return them safely to their families.
