January 29, 2010SCV Sheriffs Provide Safe Drop-Off Bins For Drugs
January 29, 2010The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is participating in the Safe Drug Drop-Off program. The program originated at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lomita Station and has since expanded to include all Sheriff’s Stations in Los Angeles County. The program consists of the installation of three safe drop storage containers in front of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The common practice of storing unused or expired medications at home can lead to improper or illegal use, sales, or distribution if they fall into the wrong hands. The inadvertent ingestion of these medications by children can have deadly consequences. Still others flush the medicines down the drain which can have an adverse impact on our environment. Waste water treatment plants are not able to test or treat for pharmaceuticals. They can end up in our rivers, streams, lakes, oceans, and groundwater system.

Around Town: City Trail
January 22, 2010The pictures in this post were taken yesterday near the western terminus of the City’s trail system (near I-5/Magic Mountain Parkway).
Pictured above is part of the City’s trail system that was rebuilt after damage from the 2005 rain storms.
After the 2005 storms different bank-stabilization projects where undertaken in the City. The rocks pictured above were part of the stabilization effort on the west-side of the City of Santa Clarita. Extensive stabalization efforts were also undertaken on the east side of town as well.
A catch basin near this trail serves as a habitat for wildlife long after the rain stops falling. Access to this Class I Bike Route can be gained by heading west from the Promanade Trail Head.
