Celebrate Safely this New Year’s Eve

December 31, 2009

The City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department encourage community members to celebrate safely this New Year’s Eve and refrain from drinking and driving. The City’s Blue Ribbon Task Force also encourages parents to talk to their teens about the dangers and repercussions of underage drinking.

The latest SCV Sheriff DUI campaign stresses the importance of having a designated driver.

On behalf of everyone at Santa Clarita City Briefs, we wish community members a safe and happy New Year and look forward to continuing to providing coverage on the latest Santa Clarita news. See you in 2010!

Christmas Tree Recycling Services

December 30, 2009

The City's Christmas Tree Recycling Service is a convenient way to help protect the environment right from your home.

As the Holidays come to a close, the City is encouraging residents to take advantage of its free curbside Christmas Tree Recycling service. Through the City collection program, all collected trees will be used as soil amendment, compost, or bagged for mulch to be given away every March at the local Arbor Day celebration.

The curbside recycling service also helps to keep the Santa Clara River free of unnecessary debris.

To participate in the program, single family residents should place their trees at the curb on their regular trash collection day during the two weeks following Christmas. Multi-family residents can place their trees adjacent to the refuse bins in their complex. No flocked, painted or fire-proofed trees will be accepted and all trees must be free of tinsel, ornaments, lights, nails and tree stands in order to be collected.

December 29, 2009

EECBG funding will be used to enhance Santa Clarita's extensive green efforts.
