Workshop Focuses on Marketing and Sales for Newhall Redevelopment Area Businesses

The workshop will be held exclusively for businesses located within the Newhall Redevelopment area.

The City and the Small Business Development Center will host an informational workshop titled Marketing and Sales When the Economy is Sinking on Thursday, October 29 at City Hall’s Council Chambers. The seminar is exclusively open to businesses located within the Newhall Redevelopment area and will be offered from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. and again from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

The Grand Opening of Phase 1 of the Old Town Newhall Streetscape Project, part of the Newhall Redevelopment project, was celebrated on September 3.

The workshop is offered in conjunction with the Newhall Redevelopment Small Business Grant Program. Business owners in attendance at the meeting will earn an additional 25 points toward their Newhall Redevelopment Small Business Grant Program applications, potentially increasing their chances of receiving program funding.

The Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic will be held off Rockwell Canyon Road at College of the Canyons' Valencia Campus this Friday, October 30

 The City of Santa Clarita, along with the L.A. Department of Public Health, College of the Canyons, and L.A. County Sheriff and Fire Departments, will host the 4th annual Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic this Friday, October 30 at the College of the Canyons. The free clinic will offer inoculations against the seasonal flu from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. or as long as supplies last. Vaccinations against the H1N1 flu virus will not be administered.

The flu-shot Drive-Thru distribution will be conducted in the College of the Canyons Valencia campus parking lots off Rockwell Canyon Road. No walk-up shots will be administered.

The City of Santa Clarita was featured on KCBS/KCAL 9 last Thursday, October 22 for its award-winning Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program. The segment focused on the City program’s proactive approach toward helping residents solve code violation issues. In addition to giving an overview of the program, the segment also featured an interview with a community member who benefitted from the partnership aspect of the Extreme Neighborhood Makeover Program.

The City’s Parkmobile Party Packages provide the makings for the perfect celebratory party or birthday bash for kids aged 5-11. The Parkmobile delivers a choice of four different themed parties straight to your doorstep or favorite City park.

The four available Party Package themes include Sports Lover, Surf’s Up, Circus Bizircus and Fit for a Knight/Pretty as a Princess. The City will begin roadwork on McBean Parkway between Decoro Drive and Newhall Ranch Road on October 28. The work, part of the Asphalt Rehabilitation Project made possible through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA), will be conducted in the evening from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. to avoid disrupting busy daytime travel. Roadwork will also be strategically scheduled to minimally impact residents living near the project area.

Asphalt street grinding scheduled near homes will mostly be conducted during the early evening hours, with work continuing throughout the night closer to nonresidential business areas. The roadwork on McBean Parkway is scheduled to be completed by November 25. Lane closures may be in effect between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays to accommodate rush hour traffic.

Sharps and Medical Waste Round-Up to be Held Tomorrow

 The City and Waste Management/Blue Barrel will host the Sharps & Medical Waste Round-Up tomorrow, October 23 at the SCV Senior Center to assist local seniors in disposing of needles and pharmaceutical waste. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will also feature recycling workshops and information regarding the proper disposal of medical waste materials.

Batteries, inhalers, household hazardous waste, electronic waste and DEA-controlled substances and illegal drugs such as barbiturates, and methamphetamines, will not be accepted for collection.

The City's First Floor Gallery now features art with a focus on music.

Visitors to City Hall have likely noticed the newest exhibit featured at the City’s First Floor Gallery. The display, called From Elvis to Ella: The Power of Music, features works of art that capture the spirit of music. The gallery is part of the City’s Public Art program, designed to make art more accessible to local residents.

From portraits of Bennie Goodman, Elvis Presley and Billie Holiday, to artists’ renditions of musical instruments and songs, the First Floor Gallery is a real treat for music enthusiasts of all genres. Songs and standards by the musicians featured in the exhibit are also softly played throughout the Gallery, allowing visitors to fully experience the fusion of art and music present in the Gallery.  The exhibit will be available for viewing through the first week of January.
