September 25, 2009The City of Santa Clarita has begin the restriping process on Decoro Drive. The entire project is set to be completed by Friday, October 2 with the majority of the work to begin Monday, September 28.
Construction commenced yesterday with grinding to remove the white striped buffer area located between the bike lane and traffic lane on the roadway. Decoro Drive will remain one lane in each direction to accommodate through traffic on the roadway during construction. Bike lanes on the street will also be closed at this time.
When the restriping process is completed, Decoro will include a narrowed center median, two traffic lanes in each direction and one six foot bike lane on each side of the road, which is the pattern residents agreed upon at the Decoro Drive Community Meeting held September 2.

CITY AWARDED $4.6 MILLION FOR GREEN ENERGY IMPROVEMENTS
September 23, 2009Santa Clarita has been awarded $4,620,000 in funding for innovative environmental technologies as part of the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Transit Investments in Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER). Santa Clarita received the fifth largest amount awarded through the competitive grant program, which distributed $100 million in funding among 43 transit agencies selected nationwide.
As the City stated in its proposal to the FTA, Santa Clarita will use the awarded funding to add canopies topped with photovoltaic modules to its Transit Maintenance Facility (TMF), which will generate 95 percent of the electricity required to power the site. The advanced canopies will also reduce operating and maintenance costs by providing shade for full-size inter-city and commuter buses.
The $4,620,000 awarded to Santa Clarita is the full amount the City requested. The TIGGER funding is the City’s first competitive grant awarded though the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Press Release:http://www.santa-clarita.com/cityhall/cmo/press/release.asp?ID=1456
