July 30, 2009What do you get when you combine a mix of some of the music industry’s top session and touring musicians on one stage at Central Park? You get an unforgettable night of music with the SCV All Stars at Concerts in the Parks. The SCV Allstars, produced by Pramik Entertainment, is made up of 11 of Santa Clarita’s busiest professional musicians. These talented musicians from our own backyard have been seen on stage worldwide, in movies and television, on tour with major artists, and heard in countless recordings and commercials.
Concerts in the Parks is a free event held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Central Park. The show will consist of music by: Earth, Wind & Fire, Lionel Richie, Tower of Power, James Brown and Mariah Carey.
Adding to this year’s event is Bristol Farms who will be on-site selling food from their “Extraordinary Food Store.” For those new to this free event, there’s also a helpful FAQ with tips and guidlines for attendees.
City of Santa Clarita 21-Point Plan Featured in International PM Magazine
July 30, 2009The latest edition of Public Management (PM) Magazine features the City of Santa Clarita’s 21-Point Business Plan for Recovery in it’s cover article. The City of Santa Clarita’s proactive approach to combating the current economic downturn head-on has gained interest from many municipalities and even drew attention from the White House, when City officials traveled to Washington on a recent visit. In addition to the article, an interview with City Manager Ken Pulskamp is posted to the web version of the magazine.
Public Management (PM) is the official magazine of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), with a track record of more than 80 years as a trusted source of local government management information.
Catch a Ride on the NoHo Express, for FREE!
July 29, 2009The City of Santa Clarita’s Transit Divsion will offer free rides on its new NoHo (North Hollywood) Express route the first two weeks of operation, from August 2-16. After the initial two weeks, riders who complete an online survey will receive extended free transportation on the NoHo Express through August 31.
The NoHo Express is the City’s newest transit route, providing direct service from Santa Clarita to North Hollywood seven days a week. Riders who wish to extend their free service on the new line for all of August can fill out the online survey, available here. A printable coupon is available after completing the survey for riders to present while boarding City of Santa Clarita Transit. The coupon is valid exclusively on the NoHo Express during the month of August. Patrons who transfer onto another bus or rail system may incur additional transfer charges.
National Night Out Happening Tuesday August 4
July 29, 2009The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is presenting National Night Out August 4 from 5-8 p.m. at Old Orchard Park. National Night Out is a family event that combines safety and fun and features a host of things to do and see for kids. Present at National Night Out will be fingerprinting, the Search and Rescue team, Sheriff’s Posse, the Parkmobile, games for kids and much more. National Night Out Flyer
Going On Vacation? Sign up for a Sheriff’s Vacation Check
July 28, 2009The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station offers a free vacation check service for residents going out of town. Basically, residents sign up for the service and then a Sheriff’s deputy will check on the home while the occupants are away. Signing up is easy and can be done on-line through an eService request form. There are several other steps residents can take to help protect their homes and properties, but requesting a vacation check can add extra protection and piece of mind. Other steps recommended by the Sheriff’s Department are:
Have good locks on the doors and windows, and USE THEM! Engrave your valuables with your California driver’s license number (Preceded by CA) and post “Operation ID” stickers in entry doors and windows. Never leave your house key hidden outside under a doormat, in a flower pot or on the ledge of a door. Make sure your house appears “Lived in.” Use timers for lights and radios. Have a neighbor or friend pick up mail, packages and newspapers. Keep the lawn mowed and watered. Leave trip plans and an emergency phone number with trusted neighbors or friends.
Junior Olympics to Begin at Aquatic Center, Center Closed to Public Through August 2
July 27, 2009The five-day Junior Olympics event is expected to attract more than 2,000 visitors daily and will feature Long Course 50 Meter swimming competitions. The City is co-hosting the event with the local U.S. Club Swim Team – the Canyons Aquatics Club. The City’s 50 Meter Olympic sized pool is a popular location choice for the event for many reasons, including the fact that swimmers often break record swim times at events hosted at the facility. Westfield Valencia Town Center Rockin’ Summer Nights Finale Tuesday Featuring Mishavonna Henson
July 27, 2009The Westfield Valencia Town Center’s summer concert series, Rockin’ Summer Nights, concludes Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. with former American Idol contestant Mishavonna Henson. The fourth in the summer series, the event is free and open to the public. Mishavonna Henson was a season eight top 36 finalist on American Idol. Her music is described as Country with an edge.
Besides live music there will be special giveaways and opportunity drawings with proceeds going to the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project.
City Offering Free Arts & Crafts Classes at Sports Complex
July 27, 2009The City of Santa Clarita is offering arts and crafts classes for kids 6 – 9 years old at the Sports Complex each Friday through August 14. The classes run from 11:15 a.m. to noon and are completely free. Projects vary from week to week and all supplies are provided.
