Extreme Neighborhood Makeover Marks One Year Anniversary

June 22, 2009

It’s been one year since the City’s Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program was launched. Since the program began, thousands of residents have been introduced to services and resources to aid in keeping their neighborhoods clean and beautiful.

For one homeowner in Canyon Country living along Stillmore Street in the first “Makeover” area, the program helped him accomplish what he otherwise could not have done. His home and yard had come under disrepair and, though he was notified of code violations, he was unable to fix the problems because he is a senior citizen living on a fixed income. He asked for an extension, but City Community Preservation Officers went a step further; they found companies and volunteers to help the Santa Clarita resident for free.

Transit is switching from paper tickets to rechargeable "TAP" cards

City of Santa Clarita Transit has upgraded to TAP (Transit Access Pass), Los Angeles County’s new bus fare payment card and the program will go into effect on Wednesday, July 1.  The card will replace all Santa Clarita paper passes, reducing waste and freeing riders from hauling around exact change.

With TAP, riders swipe the transit fare-box with their card when it’s time to ride.  TAP cards are currently available for Transit riders to purchase and load at City Hall’s first floor cashier (accepting cash, check or charge) or the City’s Transit Maintenance Facility (accepting cash or check).

The TAP cards are anticipated to make using the City’s transit system more convenient for regular passengers. There is a detailed FAQ  with answers to just about every question regarding the new payment method you can think of here.
