In a new series, “Around Town,” City Briefs will occasionally post a picture of a thing or a place around the City that some might not know about. Or maybe you’ve seen it, but don’t know the story.
Pictured is the Veteran’s Historical Plaza on Walnut Street in Old Town Newhall which opened Memorial Day 2005. Before the Plaza was built, the site was basically a triangular shaped asphalt parking lot – except there was no parking. The City bought the uniquely shaped property and, through a big community effort you can read about here, transformed the land into a beautiful and fitting tribute to the men and women who served in the armed forces. It’s one of the more distinctive properties in the City and is located near Hart Park.
