City Offers Free Holiday Trolley Rides

December 15, 2008

This holiday season the City of Santa Clarita is once again offering free rides on the Holly Jolly Holiday Trolley. The trolley is a motorized re-creation of a 1900′s streetcar and has an authentic look with oak seats, paneling and brass features. Holiday decorations combined with old-time looks make the Holly Jolly Holiday Trolley popular with shoppers. When not decked out in holiday regalia, the vintage Hometown Trolley services local hotels and special events.

The Holly Jolly Holiday Trolley  will follow a route connecting holiday shoppers to the Westfield Valencia Town Center, Target, and Kohl’s, with pick-ups every 20 minutes.

The City’s Trolley runs on Saturday, December 20th through Tuesday, December 23rd from 12:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, December 24th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mayor Bob Kellar announces route details for the upcoming Amgen Tour of California

The City of Santa Clarita held a joint press conference today with Pasadena releasing details of the route for the February 21 Stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of California. Stage 7 of the Amgen Tour of  California begins in Santa Clarita and features riders racing nearly 90 miles through the San Gabriel Mountains to an altitude of over 4900 feet. Full details can be found on the City’s Amgen Tour of California website and the press conference video can be seen in it’s entirety on Media Central.

Amgen Tour of California Stage 7 Route Map

The route from Santa Clarita to Pasadena will involve serious climbing for the cyclists. The first 25 miles of stage 7 will be a gradual climb from Santa Clarita through Acton. Once the starting pistol fires off at noon, riders will turn right off of Town Center Drive onto McBean where they will travel to Newhall Ranch Road and onto Bouquet Canyon. The cyclists will continue up Bouquet Canyon to Vasquez Canyon Road heading east and then onto Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon as they prepare to leave Santa Clarita. When they make it to Soledad Canyon Road they will be on their way to the first “sprint” of the stage. When the riders reach Acton they will head southeast to Aliso Canyon and onto Angeles Forest Highway where they will encounter a “King of the Mountain” or KOM hill climb.

The route continues uphill, showcasing the beauty of the San Gabriel Mountains, to the second highest elevation ever reached by the Amgen Tour of California on the
towering Millcreek Summit (4,906 ft.).  Descending with a 15-mile run to Angeles Crest Highway, the route begins a fast plunge to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.  After more than 65 miles from Santa Clarita to Pasadena, with the mountains and the Rose Bowl serving as the backdrop, the peloton will complete the stage with five, five-mile laps on a very demanding circuit through the area surrounding the Rose Bowl.  This course will provide a challenging, action-packed day leading up to the finale on Sunday.
